February 2010 – General Surgeon Dr. David Goldsberry has returned from a volunteer mission, flying much-needed relief supplies to Haiti, following the devastating earthquake that struck the island nation January 12.
“Another doctor, also a pilot, volunteered to make a trip with donated medical supplies, so I went along as a co-pilot,” Goldsberry said. “We flew in to the capital, Port-au-Prince. It was rather confusing on the ground with the exact procedures for customs and immigration unclear. But unloading the plane went smoothly as it was arranged by the relief agency.”
“On the tarmac, the atmosphere was tense. We were able to navigate clear of any pitfalls with “gifts” of food to the locals,” laughed Goldsberry. “We were glad to be able to offer some assistance, delivering medical supplies that had been collected by a relief organization in Venice, Florida.”
